Mamatography Week 14-20, 21-28 (January)

Hey Everyone,
We had a crazy couple weeks with possible kidney stone (me), flood (no damage, but had to move out), and general camera dying. Hopefully the next bunch of weeks will be smooth sailing!
So here we go with catch-up...

Day 14 (14.1.12)
This is a great photo of "Havdala", the ceremony where we divide between the holy day of Shabbat, to the 'regular' days of 'chol' (what we refer to as days 1-6 or any day that is not a holiday). We light the candle, make some blessings ("He who divides between kodesh (holy) and chol, between light and dark, and between Shabbat and the rest of the 6 days...- sounds better in Hebrew), smell beautiful scents, and focus on moving away from the holy day and into the week. It's both a happy time and a sad time and that's why we have the candle and 'besamim' (nice scents), to raise our spirits. Our family dances and sings after we make the blessings (If you want to hear more about the Sabbath and these customs, just ask).
Havdala

Me and Miss A! (why does she look much more awake than me?)

Day 15
Just another breakfast at the Cohen household. We actually are too rushed to eat breakfast, so this is a one-time thing people.

Miss T

Miss A loving her oatmeal

Day 16
This was an interesting day. The preschools had a strike (actually, it was the municipality and therefore, the teacher's assistants could not come, leaving the teacher unable to accept the children. So...

Me and Miss T had a fun day shopping. I took her to look at beds (another long story, but we had mold on the bottom of our beds so we got rid of them and T and I chose new ones).

She was the photographer for the day...

Isn't this a nice pic of a parking lot in Raanana?

Day 17
This is significant because unfortunately we don't have play dates enough. G has mostly girls in his class...So here he had Mr. R over and they built a castle.

My office

Day 18
Miss A takes a nap. Big deal. And, she put herself to sleep...

I promise she's under there!

Day 20 (Friday Fun-Day)
Breakfast together at Coffee and Friends...(dairy restaurant)

(And that's the end of the week!)

Day 22
We love when Adena (Abba-Daddy's sister) comes to play with Little N. Silly things tend to happen...
Guess who took this picture? Not me...

Day 23
Abba stays home from work to care for Ima (who might have a kidney stone and in general, can't move her side- In the end it was probably from picking up the little girl in the picture...)

Fun ensues...

Took the kids for a special afternoon at the Gymboree!

Learned to climb the wall! (As if they don't do this already!)

Day 24
First day of walking (It lasted 2 mornings but I'll keep you posted on future successes in the exercise dept).

My running shoes.

Day 25
Adena comes again and more fun ensues...
It's raining in here!

Mr. G sleeps very soundly from an energetic day of silliness.

Day 26
This picture is not from the 26th, but it represents what happened on the 26th (last Thursday). We had a flood in our building and all the power shorted out. We were told to leave for the weekend because it probably wouldn't be back in time for Shabbat, so we crashed Abba's mom (Savta Raanana) and it all worked out great.

That was the last pic of the week...I'll see you next week. For anyone interested in joining this fun challenge, go to the Mamatography page of Luschka's blog, Diary of a First Child.

Making Hot Dog Monsters

I can't remember where I got this idea, but I think it came from Pinterest.com. I loved the idea of making hot dog monsters because it satisfied 2 needs. 1) I was able to get the kids doing an activity and being involved with cooking their dinner and 2) It allowed them to have some control over the word, 'monster', which is a scary word for many kids, especially my biggest, Mr. G.
We stuck uncooked noodles through uncooked hot dogs and voila!

G having fun!

I thought this was a cool picture.

Miss A enjoying her dinner.

ewwwww!!
* This dinner was served after a nice helping of veggies, if anyone out there is curious! I know it looks really unhealthy!! But it was so much fun for them.

Mamatography Challenge Week of January 8-14

Why are all my pics about Miss A? She's the performer around here...
January 8, 2012
Miss A had to wear the gargles today...

Passed out on the couch after a long and tiring day.

January 9, 2012

Miss A and her dancing bunny.

January 10, 2012

Miss T shows an interest in a math workbook. She diligently works while I prepare breakfast. Yes, this was taken before 7am!

January 11, 2012
My new 'diet', meaning, the veggies lasted a couple days..I was hungry!

January 12, 2012
Miss T surprised me by playing with Mr. G's train set. I was thrilled! She usually sticks to dolls and coloring..

January 13, 2012

In honor of Mr. G finishing his 'Gibor' chart, we all went to the convenience store for some ice cream! (note: It is the middle of winter, but it was his idea, so who am I to step between a boy and his ice cream!)
*The Gibor Chart is something I heard about from jewishmom.com. Gibor in Hebrew means Hero (A valiant hero who is able to overcome obstacles, hardships, difficulties). In our family it means being able to do things that might be difficult for us, like sharing, yelling, hitting, helping. When I see that someone has 'overcome' their challengs, they are a 'Gibor' and they get a star. The kids are really proud of their stars and it encourages them to overcome feelings that might be hard for them.

January 14, 2012 was shabbat (the sabbath), so I have no pictures. But next week I'll try to get a picture after shabbat. Have a great rest of the week!

This mamatography thing is really hard! I'm looking forward to this challenge getting easier...

Mamatography Challenge 2012- January 1-7

I'm trying my hand at the Mamatography challenge 2012. If I stick with it, it'll be really cool to see each day for one year! Also, I love the idea of looking at your day with an eye for capturing that one memorable moment. So here it is! (Ok some days have 2 moments..)

Jan 1, 2012
Miss A helping out at a music class. She's so proud.
As soon as I snap another picture, her tambourine falls...
She's quick to pick it up again and walks merrily into class.
We had a surprise visit with cousin Oren. Mr. G was so happy (see that smile?) He got to stay up late.

Jan 2, 2012
We did watercolor crafts with the week's Torah (Bible) portion in mind. Here is Miss T concentrating very hard.
Mr. G with friend Mr. L.

Jan 3, 2012
I got to have special time with Mr. G today when the girls went to story hour with their Sabba. We went on a walk to find 'mighty machines' and discovered there is a benefit to the construction happening on my corner!

Jan 4, 2012
Miss A found a chocolate coin left over from Chanuka and smiled at me when I let her eat it..(we need to get rid of that pacifier!)

Jan 5, 2012
Miss. A dressing up as "Ima shel Shabbat", which translates to "Mother of the Sabbath". At school the girls pretend to light the candles and make the special blessings, so she's re-enacting that here. So cute!

Jan 6, 2012
Mr. C (Abba/Daddy) is home to take the kids to school (and give me a break). Yay! I had to capture this moment...
